Judicial Review

The High Court in Northern Ireland operates a supervisory role over the actions taken by public authorities and you or a group can bring challenges if you believe that a decision made by a public authority has been made wrongly or unlawfully.

We have extensive experience in mounting cases against, the Northern Ireland prison service, government departments and the PSNI. We also have been involved with interventions on behalf of charities and groups in cases taken by others.

If you wish to take such action to resolve an error of law you must demonstrate a sufficient interest in the matter and comply with the strict time limits. It is therefore essential legal advice be sought as a matter of urgency.

Legal aid can be obtained for mounting a judicial review depending on your circumstances. However if you are not eligible for funding from the Northern Ireland Legal Service Commission, we can make applications to other agencies that fund cases. For instance, our firm is a member of the PILS Project.
